Some Blogging Ideas and Principles
Just so that I can have a clear idea of what sorts of things I'm about in this new (to me) space, this first post will be me figuring out what draws me to blogging, and maybe figuring out some principles to go by while I'm at it.
What do I like to read from others?
I figure that knowing what I like to read can help me come up with things I might like to write. Or, at least, it will convince me that some people will enjoy the things I write, since I enjoy reading these things.
I like stories of everyday life, but not ones that are too drawn out. I tend to skim over very long paragraphs about daily happenings, but I do genuinely like to know that someone, somewhere, went on a nice walk today, you know?
I like people talking about their perspectives on things. Sometimes, even if there's a topic that's been covered a million times, it's nice to see someone taking a stab at it in their own way.
I like when people talk about a path they've taken in life. A career path, a path toward an understanding, etc. I enjoy the honesty about life, especially outside of a progress- or money-oriented mindset.
What do I want to keep in mind while blogging?
- It will not be perfect.
- If you write, you'll get better at writing. If you don't write, you won't get better at writing.
- It's okay to be sincere.
- It's okay to be silly.
- It's okay to be inconsistent.
- It's okay to leave loose ends.
That's all I can think of for now. I'm looking forward to writing and reading more!
